Key takeaways

  • Love on Hamilton began on one street in Hamilton in 2014.
  • Daniel and Katie Ziedins serve through e3 Ministry Canada.
  • There are several ways to stand with the work, including prayer and partnering through e3.

“I thank my God every time I remember you… because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.”

Philippians 1:3–5

There is a verse most of us read past. Jesus has just been accused of casting out demons by the power of Satan, and He answers with a picture of a burglary:

"Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can plunder his house." — Matthew 12:29

Read that again slowly. Jesus is the one breaking in. The strong man has been bound at the cross. And the "possessions" being carried out of that house are not gold or silver. They are people. Sons and daughters held captive by addiction, shame, despair and lies — carried out of darkness and brought home to the Father.

Paul says the same thing in one sentence: God "has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves" (Colossians 1:13). Every salvation is a rescue. Every baptism is a jailbreak.

Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke spent his life preaching to millions across Africa under a phrase that has never left me: "plundering hell to populate heaven." It isn't hype. It's simply what the gospel does. Hell loses people. Heaven gains family.

This post is an honest invitation to take part in that — with Katie and me, through e3 Ministry Canada.

Where this started: one street in Hamilton

In 2014, Katie and I started going out onto the streets of Hamilton with food, prayer and the name of Jesus. We called it Love on Hamilton. It was small. Some nights it was just us and a few friends, a cooler of sandwiches, and a lot of nervous prayers on the walk over.

But God kept showing up. Over more than a decade we've watched Him heal bodies, break chains of addiction, set people free, and bring people to faith. Salvations and baptisms have become regular testimonies — not because we're special, but because the gospel is still "the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes" (Romans 1:16).

What began as a small outreach grew into a weekly movement of more than 50 people evangelizing together in Hamilton, and then into Love on The World — the same simple model of loving people and sharing Jesus, carried into other cities.

The gates are not built to hold us back

Jesus said, "on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it" (Matthew 16:18).

Gates don't attack. Gates defend. That means the Church is not hiding from hell — the Church is the one advancing, and hell's gates are the ones that can't hold. Every Saturday outreach, every conversation on a bench, every follow-up text the next morning is a step through a gate that was never going to stand.

That's the posture we want to live and train others to live: not fear, not religious duty, but the confidence of people who know the outcome.

What the work looks like now

Today the calling has grown into several connected pieces, all aimed at the same thing — souls saved and believers equipped to reach their own cities:

We also get to run alongside ministries we love, including e3 Canada, God Heal Our Land, I Am Second and Disciple a City. None of this is a solo effort.

Why we serve through e3 Ministry Canada

e3 Ministry Canada exists to equip God's people to evangelize His world and establish His Church. That's the same heartbeat as everything above, so we serve as part of their team.

It also means your support is handled well. When you give toward our ministry, your gift is made to e3 Ministry Canada. e3 honours your preference to support Katie and me, while the gift remains under e3's discretion and control for its charitable purposes, in line with Canadian charity regulations. You can contact e3 directly with any questions or to review their financial reports.

Every part of the army shares the victory

There's a moment in 1 Samuel 30 that changed how I think about partnership. David's men recover everything the enemy had stolen, and some of the soldiers don't want to share the plunder with the men who stayed behind guarding the supplies. David refuses:

"The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike." — 1 Samuel 30:24

In God's economy, the ones who hold the rope share the reward of the ones who go down the well. Paul thanked the Philippians for their "partnership in the gospel from the first day until now" (Philippians 1:5) — and he told them their giving would be credited to their own account (Philippians 4:17). When someone gives their life to Jesus on a Hamilton sidewalk, everyone who prayed, gave and sent shares in that joy.

And there is joy. Jesus said, "there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Luke 15:10).

The question Paul asked

"How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?" — Romans 10:14–15

Somebody has to go. Somebody has to send. Both are obedience, and both are needed.

Four ways to stand with us

Populating heaven

John was given a glimpse of where all of this is heading:

"After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb." — Revelation 7:9

That multitude is not a metaphor. It is made of real names — people who are, right now, sitting on a bench downtown, or scrolling at 2 a.m., or wondering if God could ever want them. Our job is to go and get them, to love them well, and to not let them be forgotten.

Katie and I can't do this alone, and we were never meant to. If something stirred in you while you read this, that's not an accident.
