Prayer

“Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”
Matthew 10:8
Praying for a sick person is one of the most ordinary things a Christian can do and one of the most intimidating. Most of the fear comes from two questions: *what if I say it wrong* and *what if nothing happens.*
Both have honest answers.
Ask permission. "Would it be alright if I prayed for that?" Almost nobody says no. Asking turns it from something done *to* them into something done *with* them.
Ask what's actually wrong. Not for diagnosis — for dignity. People carrying pain are used to being managed. Being genuinely asked is already part of the healing.
Ask if you can put a hand on their shoulder. Optional, always ask, and never anything but a shoulder or a hand.
Short. Out loud. In normal words. You are not performing.
Something like: *"Father, thank you that you see Rachel. I'm asking you to heal this back completely, in Jesus' name. Pain, go. Body, be restored. Rachel, I bless you with peace right now."*
A few things that help:
If something improved even a little, thank God out loud and pray again. In practice, healing often comes in increments, and the second prayer is the one people skip.
You are not the healer. You are the one willing to ask. That's the whole job.
This will happen, and how you handle it matters more than the prayer did.
Do not blame them. Never suggest their faith was too small, or there's hidden sin, or they didn't believe hard enough. That is spiritual abuse and it has done enormous damage. Nowhere does Scripture put the weight on the sick person.
Do not pretend. Don't tell someone they're healed when they're still in pain.
Do stay. "I don't have a tidy explanation. I do know God loves you and I'm not going anywhere." That sentence has led more people to Jesus than any instant miracle I've witnessed.
Do keep asking. Persistence is a form of faith. Ask if you can pray again next week — and then actually do.
Two reasons, both practical.
First, you'll forget the miracles. Testimonies are how faith spreads — "they overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." Log what happened while it's fresh; Kingdom Base has a Wall of Miracles for exactly this.
Second, you'll forget the person. Someone who let you pray for their body has trusted you with something real. Log them in Kingdom Base, set a follow-up, and check in. "How's the back?" is one of the most powerful discipleship questions there is.
