🗣️ How to Share the Gospel in Five Minutes (Without Sounding Rehearsed)

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

1 Peter 3:15

Most believers freeze not because they doubt the gospel, but because they've never said it out loud. The fix isn't a better script. It's saying it a few times until it sounds like you.

Here's a version you can hold in your head and adapt to any person, in about five minutes.

First, earn the conversation

Nobody owes you their attention. You get it by being genuinely interested in them.

Ask a real question. "How's your day actually going?" — and wait for the second answer, not the first.
Ask permission. "Can I ask you something kind of personal?" Almost everyone says yes, and now you're invited rather than intruding.
Ask about their story. "Do you have any kind of faith background?" This tells you where to start and stops you preaching at someone who's already a believer.

You are not delivering a presentation. You are having a conversation with someone God already loves.

Then tell it in four movements

Not four points to recite — four beats to hit in your own words.

1. God is good, and He made you on purpose. Start here, not with sin. Most people already suspect they're a disappointment; what they doubt is that they're wanted. "I believe you were made on purpose by a God who actually likes you."

2. Something is broken, and we all feel it. You don't have to argue for sin. People know. "Every one of us has that gap between the person we want to be and the person we actually are. The Bible calls that sin — not to shame us, but to name it honestly."

3. Jesus dealt with it Himself. This is the news. "God didn't send us a list of rules to climb back to Him. He came down. Jesus lived the life we couldn't, took the death we earned, and walked out of the grave three days later."

4. It's a gift you receive, not a wage you earn. "You don't clean yourself up to be accepted. You get accepted, and then He cleans you up. All you do is turn and trust Him."

That's it. Five minutes, honestly told.

Then ask the one question people never ask

"Is there any reason you wouldn't want that?"

It's gentle, it's not a hard close, and it surfaces whatever is actually in the way — a hurt, a doubt, a church wound, a habit they can't imagine surrendering. That answer is worth more than any argument you could have made.

If they're ready, pray with them right there. Simple words: turning from the old life, trusting Jesus, asking Him to lead. No formula required.

Do the unglamorous part

Here's where most gospel conversations quietly die. You had a beautiful moment on a sidewalk and by Friday you can't remember their name.

Write it down before you get in the car. That's the whole discipline.
