Discipleship
The Great Commission is Jesus' command in Matthew 28:18-20 to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey. Here is what it means, where it appears, and how to live it.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8
The Great Commission is the instruction the risen Jesus gave his followers just before he returned to heaven: go and make disciples of all nations. It is recorded most fully at the end of Matthew's Gospel:
Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)
It is called "great" because of its scope (all nations), its authority (all authority belongs to Jesus) and its promise (he is with us always). It is called a "commission" because it is an assignment, given to every follower of Jesus, not only to pastors or missionaries.
Read it slowly and four parts stand out.
Go. Followers of Jesus are sent people. That can mean across the world, but it starts across the street, at work and around your own table.
Make disciples. This is the main command. A disciple is a follower of Jesus who is learning to obey him. The goal is not a decision on a card, but a life following Jesus.
Baptizing them. New disciples publicly identify with Jesus and become part of his people, the church. How to explain baptism to a new believer covers this.
Teaching them to obey. Not just teaching information, but helping people do what Jesus said. That takes time and relationship. How to disciple someone is a practical guide.
And it rests on two promises: Jesus has all authority, and he is with us always. We do not go alone.
Matthew is the best-known version, but Jesus' sending appears in every Gospel and in Acts:
Acts 1:8 shows the shape of the mission: start where you are, then keep widening the circle, all in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Many Christians think of the Great Commission as evangelism only: telling people about Jesus. That is the first half. The second half, "teaching them to obey", is discipleship. A church can be good at the first and still lose most of the people who respond, because no one walks with them afterward.
That is why follow-up is not a boring extra. It is obedience to the second half of the command. Nobody forgotten: the missing half of the Great Commission explains why.
Every disciple. Jesus spoke it to his eleven disciples, and it reaches us through them: disciples who make disciples who make disciples. Paul described four generations in one verse in 2 Timothy 2:2.
You do not need a title or a gift of evangelism. You need to know Jesus and be willing to tell others and walk with them.

Most fully in Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus' sending also appears in Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, John 20:21 and Acts 1:8.
Every disciple of Jesus, not only pastors or missionaries. Jesus gave it to his disciples, and it passes from disciples to the people they disciple, as 2 Timothy 2:2 describes.
